I strive to make emotionally compelling images for my clients. The fact we’re inundated with pictures 24/7 means we have to speak up, so let's have aesthetic beauty and technical perfection be our megaphone. Any agency, company, or non-profit can send a staff hobbyist out with the house DSLR, but you and I know, in order to stand out, we must exude competence and superiority in our images. The quality must mirror - or even exceed - that of our product, service, or message. It takes a professional to identify and solve the problems that stand between us and that kind of excellence.
Planning and executing a shoot, we’re at the confluence of art and tech and commerce. Heady stuff in my opinion, so I always try to keep in sight the fact that a pretty picture isn’t necessarily the goal of our work. Rather, it's a byproduct. Our actual aim is to make the viewer think, feel, act… our aim is to move them! Whether for a cause, or for a sale, or simply for art’s sake, we’re speaking to the viewer with our images. I like to think I have a knack for speaking clearly and concisely - or, for that matter, in abstractions when called for.
That's what I’ll bring to our collaboration. That, and 30 years of problem solving across multiple creative disciplines.
A professional drummer since age 15 and graduate of the Berklee College of Music’s Production and Engineering degree program, I made records for a living for the better part of 20 years at pedigreed recording facilities like Criteria Studios in Miami, and Battery, Sony, and Hit Factory in New York, before picking up a Holga and learning and exploring photography from the ground up.
That's right. I came to photography through a Holga!
I’m also nerd enough that I love planning meticulously for every aspect of a shoot to ensure my clients get what they came for. Working hard should be fun and I try to embody that on set.
I'm based in Richmond, Virginia with my beautiful and brilliant wife of 24 years, our two amazing teenagers, and a sweet little rescue pointer named Princess. I love cooking but usually wreck the whole kitchen doing it, and I still play gigs most weekends.
This is what I do.
I want to hear about you.
